Bridgetown, Barbados, July 16th, 2015 (CDEMA) – Several of the CDEMA Participating States were shaken today by a burst of earthquakes north-east of Barbados. The Seismic Research Centre at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad, reported that the first earthquake occurred around 7.01 a.m. this morning, and registered a magnitude of 5.9. This was followed by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake at 11.16 a.m. and three other events measuring 4.1 and 5.3 and 3.8 respectively. The sequence is still on-going.

Barbados, July 9th, 2015 (CDEMA) - Mr. Ronald Jackson, Executive Director, Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) will deliver a public lecture on July 9, 2015 on Vulnerable Populations In Emergencies as part of the observance of World Population Day 2015. The lecture is being hosted by the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Caribbean Sub-Regional Office, and will take place at 3.00p.m., today, at the Don Mills Training Room, PIOJ.
Bridgetown, Barbados, July 6th, 2015 (CDEMA) - Strong regional organisations are key to moving forward the Caribbean’s agenda on climate change.
This according to His Excellency Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, who met with Caribbean organisations which co-ordinate climate action on Friday, July 3 at a meeting at the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) in Barbados. The agencies were the CDB, Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC or 5Cs); Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH); Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF).
