Bridgetown, Barbados, February 20, 2012, (CDEMA) - Jamaica’s National Earthquake and Tsunami Simulation Exercise 2012 (NaSIMEX 2012) concluded its final exercise on Thursday, February 16 at the Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management’s (ODPEM) headquarters. The table top exercise examined the development of a plan to ensure the most rapid response to international Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) teams to Jamaica in the after math of a major earthquake event.

Bridgetown, Barbados, February 3, 2012 (CDEMA) - The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, in collaboration with the national disaster offices of Belize, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Lucia, has organised a series of capacity building workshops to address disaster risk reduction related to the safety of schools and to the agriculture sector.
Dr. Zoran Vojinovic, an Associate Professor of Hydroinformatics at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Institute for Water Education (IHE) in the Netherlands is currently analysing the flood hazard areas of the Virgin Islands.
Dr. Vojinovic and Ms. Garymar Rivera, the Senior Technical Planning Manager at the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), will visit locations throughout the Territory and review reports, photographs and video footage of past events. Additionally, they will meet with District Officers and residents from areas that have experienced flooding, to discuss key issues and gain more knowledge about past flood events.
